About volunteering

Through volunteering at a Citizens Advice Direct you can gain valuable work experience and skills, help the community, gain confidence and work with new, interesting people.

As an advisor you will provide a comprehensive telephone-advice service within the aims, policies and principles of the CAB service. To enable you to do this we offer full training and support to all our volunteers.

The success of our training and support is evident in the number of volunteers who have left to go to full-time employment (almost 20%) and the positive feedback we have had about the experiences of volunteers.

Please be reassured, people who volunteer for advice work are not expected to come with the skills and knowledge required.  We are looking for people who are enthusiastic about helping people and willing to learn. A team leader will support you when you are working.

We ask that you are:

  • Enthusiastic, reliable and punctual
  • Able to listen and communicate
  • Willing to give at least 6 hours per week
  • Undertake the basic training over 10 weeks
  • Able to work within our aims, principles and policies

We will give you:

  • New skills and work experience
  • A chance to meet new people
  • Full training and on-going development
  • Full support by team leaders
  • Travelling expenses
  • Care expenses (where appropriate)
