About Volunteering
People who volunteer come
from all walks of life and choose to volunteer for a variety of
reasons. By choosing to volunteer with Citizens Advice Direct, you
are choosing an organisation which provides a pleasant and
supportive environment within which to volunteer and the
opportunity to give first hand support to fellow citizens.
Why Volunteer?
There are a number of reasons why people choose to volunteer.
Some of these reasons are given by real volunteers as to
why they joined Citizens Advice Direct:
- To help others and gain satisfaction
- To develop skills which could help in future employment such as
IT, telephone, customer service, training and social skills
- To meet new people and broaden social circle
- To enhance CV whilst looking for employment
- To keep busy and a structure to the day whilst looking for a
new job
What's involved?
As an adviser, you will provide a telephone based advice service
to a range of clients on a wide variety of issues. To enable
you to do this you will have access to the IT systems and the
up-to-date information needed to provide the advice. No previous
experience or computer skills are necessary as full training is
provided. The success of our training and job seeking support is
evident in the number of volunteers who have left to go to
full-time employment - 20% last year!
What to expect?
The most crucial element of Citizens Advice Direct is its staff
and volunteers. We are focused on training and support in order to
keep our workforce happy and reduce turnover. By joining Citizens
Advice Direct as a volunteer you will take advantage of:
- One week fast track training or other suitable
training programme
- A well developed adviser induction process
- A supported move into live telephone advice
- On-going development and training
- Full support & coaching by team leaders

In return, Citizens Advice Direct expects a minimum six month
commitment of six hours per week from volunteers.
